CLINICAL RESEARCH NURSE COORDINATOR

Coordinate and participate in clinical research studies conducted by principal investigator(s) at Duke University Medical Center. Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical research data.
Coordinate and perform study specific regulatory processes across multiple studies of different therapeutic areas and phases, in accordance to appropriate regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and study specific protocols/plans and processes.

Specific to this position

Requires an RN with experience that can work with adult and pediatric patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Experience with research preferred. Phlebotomy skills are required.
Studies conducted within our research group enroll patients that have a variety of hematological disorders including sickle cell disease, bleeding or clotting disorders, TTP, ITP, as well as those who have a deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Among the current open studies are Phase II and III clinical trials, lab only studies and several registries. Patients are enrolled in the Emergency Department, the inpatient units or the outpatient clinics.

Screens, enrolls and follows study participants throughout the study, collects data, and documents findings.
Screening is a requirement for many of our studies and is essential to the success of the studies. Requires the ability to work independently, yet be part of a team that interacts with each other in a supportive manner to ensure success.

Participates in planning and preparing for monitoring visits, regulatory needs, and staff assignments to cover team members. Works with other team members to ensure coverage of studies 24/7 if need be to cover an active patient. Flexibility and teamwork are essential.

Provides oversight of new study staff, serves as a mentor, and acts as a resource, ensuring compliance
Participates in staffing determinations of new projects based on interest and experience that would be most productive to study enrollment.

Assists with orientation and integration of new staff members within the division with regard to clinical trials.

Serves as a resource to faculty and staff for back up and enrollment needs.

Collaborates with team members to facilitate enrollment goals.

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date. Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
