The Office of Grants and Contracts has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Postaward Specialist position.

Position Emphasis:

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families. Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

The Office of Grants and Contracts is responsible for the central administration of awards and provides service to principal investigators and administrators, for the purpose of obtaining and administering extramural funds in compliance with University and sponsor guidelines.

Job Duties:
  • Provides post-award administrative support to departmental research administrators and principal investigators by researching, interpreting, and applying the policies and procedures that govern grant and contract awards.
  • Accurately review and analyze award entry into Peoplesoft to assure proper information and data are in agreement with award documents.
  • Performs quarterly reviews with assigned department personnel through the life of the award.
  • Review and approve expenditure documents for compliance.
  • Review subcontracts and their requisitions in CU Marketplace.
  • Review and process journal entries for sponsored project accounts.
  • Review and submit payroll expense transfers for approval.
  • Process payroll expense transfer benefit corrections.
  • Reconcile/review projects with departments prior to ending to prepare for final invoice and financial reporting.
  • Review final invoices for billable projects 30-90 days after project end date.
  • Accurately review and analyze award entry into Peoplesoft to assure proper information and data are in agreement with award documents.
  • Prepare and submit on-time financial and expenditure reports per sponsor and university guidelines which include working with department administrators and sponsors to resolve outstanding activity.
  • Properly close out project accounts within policy guidelines and time requirements.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Salary and Benefits:

Hiring salary starts at $52,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Grants and Contracts within an institution of higher education or related field
  • Experience working with databases to effectively and efficiently extract data

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong accounting and analysis background
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Access, and Word)
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent time and workflow management skills
