Job Description

Smiles for Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics is a thriving group dental practice based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over the last ten years, our focus has been on providing the very best oral health care experience to every patient and parent. We are currently seeking an experienced and skilled Director of Finance/Controller to join our team to head up our Finance function.

Reporting directly to the company Owners, the this person will direct the project of switching the company from a cash to accrual based accounting system, and oversee the central finance function which would include account payables, payroll, fixed assets, bookkeeping according to GAAP standards, tax and financial reporting, cost and expense reporting, patient collections, creating and implementing financial budgets, and engaging with the executive team on business strategy and planning.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, CPA license, and at least five years experience in a financial analyst, accounting, or Controller role. Candidates must be detail-oriented and able to work independently. Healthcare or dental related experience is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the company conversion to Accrual Based Accounting and Bookkeeping. Communicate and coordinate with accountant(s) to ensure corporate standards are maintained.
Ensure books are kept according to GAAP.
Ensure books are closed and financial reports issued on a timely basis.
Ensures all tax filings are prepared and filed on a timely basis; including Gross Receipts taxes, Payroll taxes, Income Tax, Property Taxes.
Prepare and support audits in a professional manner.
Set controls and budgets to ensure company expense targets are met.
Audit and administration of company savings/retirement plans.
Develop and implement appropriate and robust accounting policies and procedures.
Drive financial process improvements and establishment of good practices.
Ensure an effective system of internal controls is in place and maintained.
Occasional day travel to the various company offices.
Special Projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and five-year's experience
Experience in healthcare or dental industry preferred, but not required
Fundamental knowlege of GAAP standards Proficient to expert Microsoft Office Excel and Word skills required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written
Strong sense of honesty and integrity; demonstrates sound judgment
Good problem solving, analytical, and decision making skills; demonstrates a high level of initiative
Strong attention to detail and interest in accuracy
Strong organizational and time management skills
