The Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track appointment in cultural anthropology, to begin in Fall 2018. We are a four-field undergraduate program dedicated to providing robust research and service opportunities for our students and to valuing interdisciplinary approaches to research, teaching, and service.

We seek a dynamic teacher with the versatility to cover the required history and theory course in anthropology, a field-based methods course in cultural and/or applied anthropology, and upper-division electives in cultural anthropology related to the candidate's areas of interest and specialization. Teaching load is 5 courses per year, with one course offload during the first year of teaching.

Geographic area and area of specialization are open. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements departmental strengths, who are actively engaged in field research, and whose research, teaching, and/or service has the potential to contribute to broader research initiatives in the department or at UCCS more generally.

In the letter of application, candidates should describe their research program and how they might fit into broader research initiatives at UCCS (please see our website and our AAA listing for examples of current collaborative projects). Additionally, candidates should address evidence of ability to work well with people, including those of diverse backgrounds; experience with and commitment to intellectual diversity; and reasons for wanting to join our department.

In a separate statement, candidates should outline their teaching philosophy; describe how they perceive the relationship among teaching, research, and service; and explain what they value about undergraduate teaching and guided research.

The successful candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand by May 2018.

Applicants must submit:
  • Letter of application that specifically addresses the job requirements and qualifications
  • Statement of teaching philosophy as outlined above
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Contact information for three references

Applications received by August 30, 2017 will receive full consideration.
