The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 135 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in 7 academic departments. The College serves more than 3,600 undergraduate students in 26 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Applied Mathematical Science, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Computational Science, Engineering Physics, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET , the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE ), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. A Temporary Instructor provides a quality learning experience for students on a semester basis. Performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning. Teaching and departmental/school service expected.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions
Teach 12/12 load at all levels of the graduate and undergraduate curriculum and in online and campus-based formats.
Teaching will typically focus on starting or bringing innovations to a program but can extend beyond the parameters of the program to meet needs of the assigned college and may also include team teaching to support sharing of innovative blended learning methods with staff and faculty.
Contribute to faculty development, mentoring, and training responsibilities focused on blended learning.
Advance interdisciplinary connections and partnerships.
Develop strong connections between the program and the OKC metropolitan area and UCO Downtown.
Promote growth in courses, undergraduate and graduate programs, and student learning experiences.
Teach courses in the Professional Science Master's Program, including Computational Science for Professionals, and Integrative Project. Some teaching duties may be in a disciplinary department in the College of Mathematics and Science depending on the successful candidate's background.
Coordinate internships and graduate/undergraduate capstone-related projects with outside organizations.
Serve on department, college, university, and Center for eLearning committees as requested.
Work in a collaborative, professional, collegial manner with colleagues and professional peers.
Teach, advise, and mentor students, evaluate student performance, and maintain department and student records in accordance with university policies.
Demonstrate commitment to working in an environment devoted to transformative learning, professional development, scholarly inquiry and excellence in teaching.
Participate in department, college, university, and Center for eLearning meetings that relate specifically to faculty.
Prepare departmental reports as requested.
Adhere to the educational philosophy of the university.
An earned degree Master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Master's degree in Computational Science or closely-related STEM discipline with significant computational science or related experience required, Ph.D. preferred.
Previous teaching experience in higher education environment.
Evidence of computational science skills (teaching experience preferred) such as scientific computing, scientific visualization, multi-scale analysis, grid generation, data analysis, applied mathematics, numerical algorithms, high performance parallel computing, and numerical modeling and simulation with applications in science, engineering and other disciplines in which computation plays an integral role.
Knowledge of eLearning design and delivery.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence.
