We are currently seeking a POL Telecommunications Operator who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.
You: You're great at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, you have keen powers of observation and good judgment, and you can relay information quickly and efficiently.
Your mission: You'll be the primary contact in the POL Dispatch Center for both the HCC community (when they need POL/security assistance) and for field officers (when they need assistance and/or information during both routine and emergency situations). The dispatch center is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Your work: As you're taking calls as described above, you'll maintain a computerized, active daily-duty record reflecting officer and duty location assignment. In addition, you'll maintain accurate and up-to-date POL and security report files, which may include highly sensitive and confidential information.
We'll count on you to maintain 24-hour system-wide capability to coordinate notifications and communications needed in event of emergencies or disruptions of facility operations, and be able to operate the multi-modal mass-notification system foe relaying prompt, accurate emergency information to students and staff.

Applicant must pass a complete criminal history and background check and have no convictions for any felony offense. Applicant must not have been convicted of any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years, and must not have received probation or court-ordered community supervision for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Applicant must not be currently charged with any criminal offense for which convictions would be a bar to licensure.
High school graduate or have passed a general educational development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level. College Associates degree preferred.
Valid Basic Telecommunicator Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education
Previous POL/dispatch communications experience preferred. Two (2) years higher education /campus POL dispatching experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Employees in this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment. Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing and scheduling requirements.
Ability to multitask, coordinate simultaneous mental, manual and visual activities in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively, and relay observed details in a prompt and accurate manner.
Ability to communicate effectively (English) with a diverse population. Additional languages preferred.
Working knowledge of computer technology and equipment required, with working knowledge of the following preferred: Computer-Aided Dispatch Systems (preferably Crimestar), Windows 7, MS Office Suite 2007 or higher and DPS OMNIXX database. Must be a proficient typist - computerized typing evaluation may be required.
Current TLETS, NLETS, TCIC/ NCIC dispatch certifications required. TCLEOSE Intermediate or higher telecommunications license preferred.
Applicants not currently certified are required to successfully complete TLETS, NLETS, TCIC/NCIC certification training courses within 6 months of employment.
Ability to exercise proper judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines, such as policies, regulations, and precedents
