General Description of Position:

This position assists operations at the library annex in all relevant daily duties.  He or she primarily assists the Annex Collections Coordinator in the transfer of materials to the library annex in order to repurpose previous collections space in the libraries, as well as handling physical and electronic Annex requests from patrons at Hale.  This position will also be expected to handle all basic functions of the Annex in the absence of the Annex Collections Coordinator.

Information about the Department:

Kansas State Agricultural College was established in 1863, which was the beginning of the K-State Libraries. With only 2,700 volumes at the time, the collected materials were moved four times around campus in buildings such as Farm Machinery Hall, Anderson Hall, Fairchild Hall, and Farrell Library.

In 1926, construction began on a building with the purpose of housing only the libraries' collections. That building has been renovated three times, most recently with the dedication of Hale Library (pdf) in 1997. In addition to Hale, there are four branch libraries: Math/Physics LibraryKansas State Polytechnic Library,Veterinary Medical Library, and Paul Weigel Library of Architecture, Planning and Design.

Job Description:

Assist Annex Collections Coordinator with the transfer of materials into the library annex. Participate in daily annex operations that include but are not limited to: processing shipment of materials from Hale, accessioning of materials, and retrieval and refiling of materials.  Assists with management of inventory control system (GFS’s Library Archival System).  Ability to safely and competently operate a scissor lift will also be an expectation after training.

Implementation of daily requests of material scanning forwarded from Interlibrary Loan, including retrieval and refile of materials, as well as trouble shooting scanning requests.

Additional duties as assigned including monitoring of warehouse climate and general upkeep and organization of most Annex spaces.  Knowledge of disaster procedures at the Annex, and participating in department or library-wide projects.

Follows established safety and ergonomic guidelines.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires one year of relevant experience.

Valid driver’s license upon employment.

Must complete van training within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

More than three years of stock room or warehouse experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to attend to details.

Troubleshoot and problem solve.

Ability to successfully meet established deadlines.

Relevant library experience.

Salary Range / Pay Rate:

$ 11.48 - $ 17.22 per hour
