Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, virtual, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning is seeking dynamic applicants for the position of Assistant Director within the Analytics and Decision Support unit.





Summary



The Assistant Director is responsible for understanding business processes and managing the development and use of dashboards and reports that provide data to support decision making across the college. He or she assists business users in determining their data needs and provides guidance in the use of relevant data for decision making. The Assistant Director is expected to maintain extensive knowledge of business processes and data needs in an area of specialty as well as broad knowledge of processes college wide.



Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain substantial expertise in the use of Excelsior's decision support system to answer ad hoc questions and guide usage of others across the college
  • Collect and document business needs; design dashboards and other decision support applications accordingly
  • Use visual data tools to present data clearly to nontechnical audiences
  • Work closely with Business Intelligence developers, Data Scientist, and Senior Research Analysts to ensure that applications and reports meet business needs and are also intuitive and user friendly
  • Prepare and present data to various audiences using tables, charts, and narrative reports
  • Report on key performance indicators and create projections that support budget development
  • Identify challenges, threats, and inefficiency, and recommend solutions; work with the entire ADS team to promote consistency in analytical methodology
  • Promote data stewardship and data quality
  • Develop and maintain a broad and deep knowledge of business processes and data needs in an area of specialty as well as familiarity with the uses of data to make decisions throughout the college.
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution required (Master's strongly preferred) in social science, psychology, mathematics, business or other quantitative discipline with relevant coursework in statistics and research methods
  • Five or more years relevant work experience
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word) and statistical software (such as SPSS, SAS, or R)
  • Experience with relational database products such as MS Access is desirable
  • Experience in higher education, particularly in an institutional research/institutional effectiveness office, is highly preferable
  • Proficient with enterprise reporting tools such as Qlik or Tableau
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively and positively convey
  • institutional performance information
  • Analytical mindset and comfort with explaining quantitative analyses
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow through
  • Skill and experience with descriptive statistics and large data sets
