Primary Function of Organization Unit: The main purpose of Prestage Department of Poultry Science is to support the North Carolina poultry industry research, teaching, and extension activities. Poultry is the largest income-producing commodity in the state, and Prestage Department of Poultry Science works hand in hand with the different producers, commodity organizations, allied industries, and other state agencies in educating and distributing information gleaned from research and extension activities at the university level. The Department conducts research and extension projects in physiology, biotechnology, microbiology, nutrition, toxicology, genetics and management with the ultimate goal to improve the production and wholesomeness of poultry as a food product.
Essential Job Duties: The Business Services Coordinator position will provide business and financial support for Department faculty and for the Department Head, including monitoring and managing the Departmental academic, research, and extension budgets, distance education and summer school funding, and external grant accounts and foundation accounts. The incumbent will serve as the point of contact with the CALS Business Office and University administration on financial issues, and coordinate the department's portfolio of individual and collaborative/ interdisciplinary grants. In addition, the incumbent will interact with the university grants offices, external granting agencies, university foundations offices, and with stakeholder donors. The successful candidate will be able to prepare reports of departmental budget accounts and overall budget status of projects; ensure adherence to all regulations; ensure that expenditures are applied to appropriate accounts and occur in a timely manner; advise and assist faculty with managing grant accounts in accordance with agency regulations; and anticipate, manage, and administer departmental financial responsibilities, communications, and events. The position will be a valuable link to our diverse external constituencies, including agricultural industry, commodity groups, alumni, extension agents, and funding agencies including private, state and federal agencies.
Department Required Skills: Experience working with and managing budgets. Ability to prepare spreadsheets and reports. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to professionally interact with faculty, staff, students and outside constituents that have a diverse culture and background. Computer software skills (MS Word, Excel or other similar software) and on-line resources. Exceptional customer service skills and reliability are essential. Must be detailed-oriented.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Bachelor's degree. focused in accounting or financial or years of experience equivalent to a degree. Working Knowledge of Business Operations at NC State or in the UNC System. Experience in working with college and NCSU budget offices. Experience working with budgets in an academic setting. Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials.
