Primary Function of Organization Unit: The University Cashier's Office is a large and complex department responsible for institution wide activity. The department has frequent contact with students, parents and academic and administrative departments across campus, as well as non-university companies and state agencies. Annually, the department processes in excess of $100 million in deposits for campus departments, and is responsible for the billing and collection of more than $200 million for student tuition, fees and other charges. Maintenance of an effective system to process departmental deposits and a highly accurate, transparent system of student financial records is critical to the cash flow of the University.
Essential Job Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the collection of Federal and Institutional student loans and tuition receivables for the University and to assist with compliance to federal and state regulations. This position provides in-depth counseling and assistance to debtors. This position also serves as back up support to the student accounts area during busy times. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Work with student loan borrowers and AR debtors in a Customer Service capacity to quickly resolve questions related to their account. Expected to assist each customer in a cordial, courteous, professional and service oriented manner at all times and under all circumstances. - Act as liaison between student loan billing service provider, collection agencies, the University, and the borrower. Will serve as an additional customer service representative during peak periods or when short-staffed. - Support internal collection efforts by calling and emailing borrowers who are 3 and 4 months past due twice per month and attempt to secure payment. - Set up ACH payments and process payments received at the University as needed. Use various resources to locate borrowers including contacting references. - Use various resources to locate borrowers including contacting references. - Identify accounts that have been paid in full and process borrower notifications, including sending an appropriate notification letter and updating the Promissory Note for the loan monthly. - Process student loan verifications and judgement accounts. - Place holds on late student accounts via PeopleSoft.
Department Required Skills: Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with students, parents, University staff and others about their situation. Strong analytical skills to review accounts and determine problem and resolution. Must have computer skills utilizing Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel) and ability to learn and use other software programs as required. Capacity for maintaining voluminous records and high quality organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills, good written communication skills and good organizational skills. Must have customer service experience. Experience with PeopleSoft Student Financials or comparable system.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prefer basic knowledge of Title IV financial aid regulations, prior working experience in a University financial aid office or cashier office setting. Prior NC State working experience preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft Student Financials is preferred.
