Primary Function of Organization Unit: University Communications is responsible for all central university marketing and communication initiatives. This unit works with high level university offices to develop effective communications, events and marketing strategies and thoughtful collateral to support University efforts as well as the 12 colleges on campus.
Essential Job Duties: The development writer will play a key role in the writing and development of cases for support during the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign. The scope of this work requires the development writer to communicate the impact of private support and help build a culture of philanthropy at NC State. A thorough understanding of NC State's mission and fundraising priorities is required, as well as the ability to effectively disseminate the information using a variety of communication tactics. The development writer will write about the importance of philanthropy in order to steward donors and motivate prospective donors while building strong relationships across the university.
Department Required Skills: * At least 3 years of relevant writing experience required * Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast- paced, deadline-driven environment * Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing for marketing, publications, and/or public communications * Ability to set schedules and manage deadlines effectively * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently * Careful attention to detail * Knowledge of standard style manuals (AP, Chicago) * Strong communication skills are essential, especially the ability to communicate via email and written documentation * Customer service oriented in working effectively and comfortably with external and internal constituents and stakeholders.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience writing about philanthropy and / or higher education * Knowledge of NC State University and/or large research universities preferred
