Technology and Social Media Extension Associate

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) at North Carolina State University provides nutrition education to low-income families with young children, pregnant women, and school-aged youth. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed), Steps to Health at North Carolina State University facilitates the delivery of nutrition education programs to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible recipients across North Carolina. In addition to face-to-face learning opportunities, both EFNEP and SNAP-Ed utilize technology and social media to expand program reach and deliver information to participants, program partners, and stakeholders. In addition, SNAP-Ed utilizes social media to promote policy, systems and environmental changes that support access to healthy foods and physical activity for low-income communities.
Essential Job Duties: The Technology and Social Media Extension Associate position will be an integral part of the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences professional faculty and staff at North Carolina State University. The Extension Associate will develop accurate nutrition content to be distributed through technology and social media channels. The position will coordinate all technology and social media engagement with program participants, partners, and stakeholders for EFNEP and SNAP-Ed. This position will interface with national work groups and committees; statewide, county, and district Cooperative Extension staff and volunteers; as well as other state and community¬-based organizations. Additionally, the position will evaluate the effectiveness of using technology to deliver nutrition education and social media to reinforce strategies as they relate to the goals of each specific program. It is expected that the position will remain current with the research as it relates to the use of technology and social media as an extension of nutrition education with low-income audiences. The position works under the guidance and supervision of the EFNEP and SNAP-Ed Program Coordinators for the respective work targeted by each program. The position will be 50% EFNEP and 50% SNAP-Ed. Essential job duties include, but are not limited to: * Manage all websites and social media sites for both EFNEP and SNAP-Ed. This includes, but is not limited to: state and county-level Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, Instagram, blogs and YouTube. * Develop evidence-based nutrition content and write posts for websites and social media sites, including, but not limited to posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blog posts, and scripts for YouTube videos * In collaboration with Coordinators, provide leadership to the development of scripts for Facebook Live sessions and videos for social media relevant to each program's focus and goals. * Assist with the evaluation efforts for the implementation of technology and social media related programmatic goals. * Develop media driven communications for participants and stakeholders. Assist with the collection, writing, editing and publishing of program success stories and the development of video success stories for yearly reports and program websites. * Research, develop and conduct training with SNAP-Ed and EFNEP staff related to the use of technology and social media to engage participants, partners, and stakeholders. * Provide technical assistance to staff utilizing technology to the full benefit of their program and its participants. * Participate in state and national committees and work groups formed to enhance the recruitment, retention, and engagement of EFNEP and SNAP-Ed participants and partners.. Align with federal program policies for technology and social media. Maintain knowledge of relevant research. * Conduct formative evaluation including coordinating, conducting, and analyzing outcomes of focus groups for technology use and engagement, social media strategies, and marketing campaign messages. * Use platform analytics to report outreach and engagement related to technology and social media efforts. Provide recommendations based on analytics and research for appropriate channels for technology and social media outreach to participants and partners. * Assist in the development of electronic and print media such as electronic newsletters.. * Work in coordination with key agencies and program partners within North Carolina to support statewide initiatives for nutrition-related health promotion and disease prevention. * Serve as the contact person and liaison for additional communications-related work that may be contracted out for either SNAP-Ed or EFNEP.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's Degree in Foods and Nutrition, Family & Consumer Sciences Education, Public Health, or other related field. * Background in technology and/or social media strategies for recruitment, retention, and/or engagement of participants in education.
Department Required Skills: * Demonstrated success and proficiency in inter-agency collaboration and teamwork with a commitment to diversity and pluralism. * Excellent verbal and written communication. * Proficient in technology used in educational program outreach. * Proficient with social media channels specific to outreach.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * 3-5 years experience in area of expertise. * Experience in training, adult education or teaching. * Experience working with diverse limited resource audiences and the agencies that serve them. * Proficient with social media channels specific to outreach of EFNEP and SNAP-Ed targeted audiences. * Experience in community nutrition education and program development for limited resource families. * Experience with Cooperative Extension, EFNEP, SNAP-Ed, or other health related program delivery and management. * Written and verbal Spanish fluency.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
