Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State University Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI) is based at the N.C. Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, NC. We are an interdisciplinary institute comprised of both research and extension programs, which work hand-in-hand at the NCRC to further our mission of discovering and delivering innovative plant-based solutions that advance human health.
Essential Job Duties: The Research Scholar position will work closely with faculty at PHHI and will be involved in collaborative projects between PHHI faculty and faculty on NC State University main campus. The Research Scholar position will conduct, design, and perform advanced genetic/genomic research studies with an emphasis on health-protective traits, including enhanced concentrations and profiles of phytoactive compounds to further develop new cultivars that meet the present and future needs of the NC small fruit and vegetable industries. The position will coordinate and/or conduct multiple, concurrent assignments or a multi-faceted project, including the development of independent research objectives. The position will contribute to the writing of publications, preparation of technical reports, manuscripts and presentations, as well as grant proposal development to support research funding initiatives. The position will assist/participate in PHHI and University sponsored programs. The position will also assist in the training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. *This position is located in Kannapolis, NC.*
Minimum Education/Experience: * PhD in horticulture, plant breeding, plant genetics or related field. * Experience in plant genetics/genomics and biochemistry.
Department Required Skills: * Experience in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. * Attention to detail and follow-through. * Ability to communicate effectively and work within a cooperative team of faculty, staff, and student. * Demonstrated ability to present and publish research findings.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience in plant genetics/genomics and biochemistry, preferably with small fruits or vegetables.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid NC drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
