Primary Function of Organization Unit: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) has a long history of involvement in interdisciplinary teaching and research. As we continue this tradition in a changing world, the College aims to strengthen its current offerings of interdisciplinary programs and seeks to identify additional opportunities to enhance interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate education, scholarship, research, and engagement. We are also committed to making interdisciplinary programs widely available to diverse populations through distance education. Interdisciplinary Studies serves about 500-600 major students, 100-200 minors, offers a large number of classes for NC State's General Education Program, and is a central element of both the College's and the University's strategic plan. Essential Job Duties: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in a specific discipline in Interdisciplinary Studies according to departmental need and employee knowledge, skills and ability. Courses may be taught in the areas of Africana Studies, Arts Studies (Film, Music, Visual Arts), Interdisciplinary Studies, International Studies, STS (Science, Technology, and Society), and Women and Gender Studies. Appointments may be available for Summer 2017, Fall 2017, and/or Spring 2018, with the possibility of renewal.
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent education and professional experience in a relevant field. Teaching experience at the university level.
Department Required Skills: The candidate must demonstrate skills in teaching and conducting research with a diverse cross-section of students Attention to and ability to facilitate improvement in student writing as well as offering substantial course content in person and online. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: PhD. in the humanities, social sciences or a related field. Experience working with interdisciplinary subject matter.
