It provides engineering leadership in the development and dissemination of knowledge related to the efficient utilization of biological and agricultural systems and to the preservation and management of natural resources.
Essential Job Duties: The Research Associate position will develop, test, and apply whole system models for simulating crop production on shallow water table soils with artificial drainage systems. The position will calibrate and validate the modeling framework using field measured data collected from sites across the U.S. Midwest. Applying the modeling framework across the U.S. Midwest to simulate the hydrologic, water quality, and crop yield impacts of agricultural water management practices include controlled drainage, sub-irrigation, and drainage water recycling systems. The position will use the modeling framework to investigate the effect of climate change in the Upper Midwest Region on crop production on drained lands with the overall goal of making these systems more resilient to climate variability and change. The position will prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, contribute to grant proposal preparations, and present research results at scientific meetings.
