Campus Advocacy, Resources and Education (CARE) is the advocacy and prevention education office for sexual and gender-based violence and misconduct and is affiliated with Student Health Services on the University of California Santa Cruz campus. The CARE Office is staffed by the CARE Director, the CARE Advocate, the CARE Prevention Education Coordinator, and the CARE Receptionist.

CARE supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence as well as their significant others and allies. CARE also promotes a sex-positive consent culture on campus through programming, training, workshops and other outreach to students, staff and faculty.

The CARE Director has full programmatic responsibility for the campus-wide interpersonal violence program. This position serves as an advocate, manager and university spokesperson for all campus-wide interpersonal violence issues related to students, staff, faculty and the Santa Cruz community and is directly responsible for the supervision of staff and the education of students, staff and faculty in relation to sexual violence and assault.

The CARE Director must possess a broad knowledge of university policies and procedures, must have a strong theoretical and philosophical foundation in student services as well as specialized expertise and knowledge of the effects of sexual assault on victims, survivor recovery, medical and legal procedures, and university adjudication procedures.

Qualifications include:

Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field AND one year of rape crisis counseling experience.

Strong knowledge of interpersonal violence advocacy, trauma-informed practices, advocacy for survivors within the legal system, and Title IX policies and procedures.

Experience creating, supervising, implementing and assessing campus-wide prevention education programs. Ability to apply social justice fundamentals to sexual violence prevention, including policy development and community organizing.

Ability to work with individuals who have experienced sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, sexual harassment and stalking.

Advanced skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately.

Special Conditions of Employment Include:

Prior to formal offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment criminal history background check.

Must possess or be able to obtain California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training.*

Must possess or be able to obtain California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocates.*

Will be required to take HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) training within 30 days of hire.

Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment Prevention) training every two years.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including non-business hours, to provide services, advocacy and crisis intervention.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations.
