The Student Legal Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Attorney Associate to join our team. The Part-Time Associate Attorney provides advice, counsel, and representation to students regarding their personal legal issues, assists with the development of legal educational programming and reference materials to inform students of their legal rights and responsibilities, and provides guidance on educational policies and procedures specific to the functional area. The Part-Time Associate Attorney does not advise students on issues adverse to UNT or on matters regarding another UNT student. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:* Advises and counsels students relative to personal legal issues. * Analyze legal issues and defenses.* Draft pleadings and motions.* Serve as a mediator in student mediations.* Prepares students for Pro Se litigation.* Represents students preparing cases for settlement or litigation.* Effectively communicates with adverse parties and makes appropriate referrals. * Assists with the drafting of informational guides and brochures on various legal topics for use by students.* Makes notes in the SLS database to enable the department to track the progress of cases.* Assists with representing SLS at outreach opportunity events. * Assists with the development and presenting of legal education seminars to educate students about their legal rights and responsibilities. * Maintain all licensing requirements and adhere to the prescribed standards of professional conduct. The successful candidate will possess a Juris Doctorate and will be currently licensed and admitted to practice law in the State of Texas. Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:* Considerable knowledge of accepted legal practices, legal statutes, and regulations relevant to UNT System.* Ability to organize and apply legal concepts and principles.* Ability to interpret, analyze, and prepare legal documents.* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present legal matters in clear concise form.* Ability to work on complex and confidential issues utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
