This position acts as a part of the financial aid team, importing FAFSA information from the Department of Education, performing verification, and exercising professional judgement. Resolves C flag issues on ISIR’s and analyzes NSLDS to determine aggregate loan amounts. Performs verification review and follow-up. Exercises professional judgement on a case-by-case student basis. Submits FAFSA corrections to clear issues and conflicts. Awards the TEACH grant and ensures that students meet the eligibility criteria. Serves as a backup financial aid packager. Some local travel between Illinois campuses.

 

• Perform Verification. Ensure all required forms are submitted, review all information to determine changes or updates required, and ISIR code resolution. Exercise professional judgment and reviews student appeals. Submits FAFSA corrections to clear issues and conflicts. Communicate any required updates to students and parents when necessary. Help develop forms and instructions, and information for the NLU website. Review regulations and work with management team to implement any changes required.
• Electronically imports data from Dept. of Ed and handles accordingly – separating, loading and matching data, resolving C flags, resolving conflicts or overrides, running reports etc. Processes and analyzes student FAFSAs. Assists in new aid year tracking set-up; identifying, processing, investigating and resolving issues.
• Manage TEACH Grant awarding. Review student applications, determine eligibility for grant, communicate required service obligation information to students. Review eligibility each term and check NSLDS and COD to ensure students do not exceed annual or aggregate award amounts.
• Analyzes NSLDS information to determine aggregate amount of loans, amount of outstanding Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans, and compares the analysis with consolidated loan information. Analyzes aggregate totals, canceled loans and returned funds to determine any over-awarded loans or grants, bankruptcy, or defaults. Trains on use of NSLDS for packaging and determining over-awarded loans or grants.
• Serves as a back-up financial aid packager when needed and necessary, preparing financial aid awards and ensuring they meet federal, state and institutional regulations.
• Serves as the web editor for the department, making changes, developing new web pages and proposing new ways to structure information.

• 3 years but less than 5 years of previous experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
