Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia's School of Medicine seeks a Research Computing Associate. The Research Computing Associate acts as a technical resource, supporting SOM faculty and researchers via effective use of advanced computing resources and expertise available at UVa and providing the SOM research community with valuable solutions for the advancement of biomedical sciences.

A Bachelor's degree in life sciences, computer science, informatics, engineering, or a related field by start date; four years of equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Three years overall experience in IT and/or Science required, including two years of Linux and HPC platform is required. A demonstrable level of proficiency with high-level programming languages and/or Unix/Linux shell scripting is required, as is experience with R, Python and/or Matlab programming for statistical data analysis and/or machine learning. The successful candidate must have user training experience in computational science and bioinformatics, and knowledge and experiences in bioinformatics and genomics applications and data analysis tools. Must have strong communication skills, be a team player, and also have the ability to learn new technologies quickly and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

The preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in life science, computer science, or a related discipline. Experience with high-performance computing systems and its software environment and cluster software stack management is also preferred. Substantial knowledge of life sciences and clinical research life cycle is preferred. Preference will be given to individuals who have: knowledge and experiences in Cloud solution development for life science applications using AWS, GCP and/or Azure; experience with cluster software stack management (application layer); experience with SQL-based RDBMS system utilization; image analysis & visualization programming experience; and/or user training experience in computational science and bioinformatics.

This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.
