Job Summary/Basic Function

The Coordinator of Outdoor Programs, under general supervision, assists in running a comprehensive Climbing and Outdoor Adventure Program. The coordinator organizes, implements, leads, and evaluates selected outdoor activities.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills

Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience in outdoor programs or recreational sports.
First Aid & CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of contemporary university programming methods and practices.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to exert heavy force and lift heavy objects.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
At least two years of experience in recreational administration, university campus recreation, or related setting.
Extensive experience in sport's officials training.
Supervisory experience.
Demonstrated Experience in the successful completion of multiple projects and responsibilities.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent customer service to students, employees, and the community.
Demonstrated experience using and familiarity with computer applications: word, excel, etc.

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm / Some weekends

Job Duties
Percent of total time 40 Responsibility / Duty

Coordinates the planning, operating, and assessment of intramural and club sports programs; fitness activities and classes; wellness initiatives, seminars, trainings, and awareness programs; special events, etc. Coordinate the hiring, training, and evaluation of recreational sports student workers. Advises and oversees sport club teams within the competitive sports program. Purchases, maintains and inventories of all intramural and informal recreation equipment.

Percent of total time 20 Responsibility / Duty

Implement, and evaluate wellness initiatives that meet national effective practice and federal and state guidelines. Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive risk management plan. Activities will include the planning, development, organization, and evaluation of workshops on various wellness initiatives and campaigns including, but not limited to, alcohol education and risk reduction, drug abuse prevention, depression awareness, etc.

Percent of total time 10 Responsibility / Duty

Build purposeful partnerships with academic departments, office of recruiting, and community college partners to ensure the appropriate and timely delivery of information during student transition. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure the accuracy of information that is disseminated.

Compiles information and data in conjunction with monthly, mid-year, and yearly reports. Responsible for coordinating publicity, social media and promotions related to recreational and wellness sports programs. Develops and maintains relationships with student, faculty, staff and the university community.

Collaborate with the Associate Dean to plan, develop, and achieve goals for programs and wellness in accordance with university and division goals. Helps coordinate overall vision and direction of the unit and its respective programs or initiatives through the continuous improvement planning process.

Complete other duties as assigned, to include serving as a representative on department, division, and university committees and task forces, and at events.
