Job Description


Tutor students in various Physics courses taught at Johnson County Community College. Other responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assist students with computer software necessary for the courses, help with the basic math skills to solve problems in physics and other duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Tutor students in Physics.
  • Refer and help students in proper use of resources.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new tutors.
  • Participate in Science Resource Center outreach and professional development programs.
  • Assist in daily activities of the center.
  • Follow good work ethics.

Required Skills


  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or related field.
  • Successful completion of a two semester sequence of calculus based introductory physics and a course in mechanics and a course in electricity and magnetism.
  • Must be familiar with laboratory techniques.
  • Must be able to help with computer programs.
  • Ability to explain concepts and solving word problems in Physics, both orally and in written form in a one to one or small group setting.
  • Require good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience.




Required Experience

At least one year of tutoring/teaching experience in Physics or related field in a college setting
