We are currently seeking a Librarian (Public Services) who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

The Opportunity

Your mission: Provide library reference services and instruction to HCC students, faculty and staff and to the general public as needed, and assist with development of the library's print, media and digital collections.

A typical day: On any given day, you could be creating of digital instructional materials, such as tutorials, research guides and videos, or evaluating collections and materials. You may serve as faculty liaison in assigned subjects, and you'll be recommending new purchases and licenses for online resources. You'll also be assisting with the library's Web 2.0 presence on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites, and their use as instructional tools.

SUMMARY

Provide library reference services and instruction to HCC students, faculty, and staff and to the general public as needed; assist with development of the library's print, media, and digital collections; serve on college and system-wide committees; assist with overall Learning Resources operations; provide circulation assistance as needed; may be required to teach a 1-hour credit Information Literacy course.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide reference services to HCC students, faculty, and staff, and to non-HCC patrons.

Instruct faculty, staff, and students, in the use of library resources in all formats, including online/electronic databases and Internet resources.

Assume responsibility for collection development in assigned subject areas by evaluating collections and materials, serving as faculty liaison in assigned subjects, and recommending new purchases and licenses for online resources.

Develop, organize, and present formal and informal library use instruction for students, faculty and staff.

Participate in the creation of digital instructional materials, such as tutorials, research guides and videos for use online and in the classroom.

Teach one or more sections of the 1 hour LBRA course as needed

Help promote library awareness and use.

Assist with the library's Web 2.0 presence on Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites; and their use as instructional tools.

Work with campus and faculty personnel to develop a positive working relationship.

Participate with other departments to plan and conduct programs designed to assist faculty, staff and students in the educational process.

Provide supervision, training and guidance to LRC personnel as needed.

Assist in developing reports, surveys, questionnaires, special studies and public functions.

Perform special and specific tasks which enhance and improve the total LRC/Library function.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Master's degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited graduate program required.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred two (2) years experience in a library in a public services capacity with a broad background in library skills to include library use instruction. Also prefer specializations in Instructional Design Technology, Online Learning, Social Networking, STEM resource development and any emerging technologies as they occur.

NOTE: Part-time experience will be counted as half of full-time experience; for example, two (2) years of part-time experience will equal one (1) year of full-time experience.

Maintain familiarity with the use and application of Web 2.0 tools and emerging technologies to assist and improve library services and instruction.
