Associate Director of Development at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) For over 30 years, SIEPR's mission has been to support research that informs economic policymaking while engaging future leaders and scholars. SIEPR's vibrant community of scholars shares knowledge and builds relationships among academics, government officials, the business community and the public. JOB PURPOSE: SIEPR is seeking highly motivated, experienced and qualified candidates for a full-time position as Associate Director of Development. The Associate Director of Development (ADoD) will join SIEPR at an exciting time as it solidifies and grows its annual giving program, while advancing an ambitious fundraising effort geared toward acquiring major gifts and endowments to fund its growing economic policy research efforts. The ADoD will be an active fundraiser with the primary responsibility for SIEPR's robust annual giving program as well as major gift fundraising responsibilities. The ADoD will develop strategies for expanding the annual giving program and growing the contributions of its participants. The ADoD will also be primarily responsible for ensuring impeccable stewardship for all SIEPR donors, and utilizing and employing state of the art development processes and systems. The ADoD will operate within a highly collaborative and donor-focused environment, working with the Director of Development to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that will generate financial support for SIEPR priorities. The ADoD will serve as a highly visible, knowledgeable, and articulate representative of SIEPR, providing information about its research and policy activities with the objective of building and cultivating relationships that will maintain a strong base of annual giving while producing major gifts and endowment funding. The Associate Director of Development will report to the SIEPR Director of Development, and will work closely with and be supported by a Development Associate. In collaboration with other members of the development team, the ADoD will advance prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities. The ADoD will work with SIEPR staff, donors, volunteers, and other university staff to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with all university constituencies. Note: Not all unique aspects of the job are covered by this job description CORE DUTIES*:
- Design and manage appeals (e.g., direct mail, email, video, phone, and other channels) to target key populations to maximize fundraising potential.
- Take responsibility for a wide range of fundraising activities, including maintaining an active level of contacts, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, coordinating volunteer fundraising efforts, and leading SIEPR's stewardship program.
- Develop solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for development projects and/or specific donor populations or geographic regions. Cultivate and solicit gifts to the university.
- Manage an active portfolio, and track solicitation assignments and progress. Work with a portfolio of assigned prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support.
- Working closely with the Director of Development, develop relationships leading to gifts in the $250,000 - $10,000,000 range.
- Stay informed on current university initiatives and activities.
- Establish ongoing relationships with individual alumni through personal visits, phone calls, and meaningful contacts.
- Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, make volunteer assignments as appropriate, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.
- Work closely with other colleagues in development to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization, and to coordinate interactions with donors and prospects.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.
- Advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite.
- Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
- Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class drivers license
- May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.
- Valid passport for international travel
- When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
