The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a fast-paced environment. This is an ideal position for a professional with at least three years of university public service program experience.

JOB PURPOSE: The Outreach and Engagement Manager will lead strategy development and implementation for communicating directly with students through events, meetings, classes, fairs, community centers, residences and other gatherings to inform them about public service opportunities at Stanford University. With the goal of building community and engaging students interested in making a difference, the Manager will plan Haas Center student-focused events. The individual will create strategy and coordinate campus-wide outreach, event calendars, and other promotional efforts and assist with communications. The Manager will assist in advising and help staff at the Haas Center's student information resource center to connect students interested in engaging in service to campus programs, student and community organizations, and courses. The Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining a welcoming environment for students seeking public service opportunities.

Reporting to the Special Initiatives Senior Program Director, this position will: administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding student life, advising, career counseling and academic services; identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.

CORE DUTIES*:
  • Administer outreach, engagement and events for the Haas Center
    • Create strategy for and manage a wide range of campus outreach activities.
    • Create strategies to expose students and student groups to issues and organizations through service opportunities.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to provide a welcoming environment for students seeking connections to service opportunities including maintaining the Haas Center student resource center and other common areas, such as building bulletin boards.
    • Recommend and manage ordering and distribution of Center's promotional giveaways to students.
  • Provide advice to students on a range of issues in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
    • Advise students on the range of Haas Center programs and other campus and community public service opportunities, to assist them in engaging in service and making appropriate choices and decisions.
  • Oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness and make recommendations for future programs.
  • Develop and implement plans for outreach efforts, develop and maintain external community and university liaison represent department and university at meetings and events.
    • Lead planning process to connect diverse student audiences (e.g. new students, diverse majors, Greek organizations, athletes, community centers, student groups, etc.) with exposure opportunities, Cardinal Service programming, and Haas Center programs.
    • Manage the Center's outreach events including Thanksgiving, End-of-Year Celebration, Family Weekend, and Admit Weekend in collaboration with the Cardinal Service Outreach and Engagement Coordinators and other Haas staff.
    • Manage the Haas Center activity and event calendar to insure comprehensive and effective program outreach.
  • Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
    • Collaborate with Haas staff to create systems to co-market opportunities with student organization leaders.
  • Reconcile complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.
  • Summarize data from multiple sources, prepare management reports and presentations
  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.
  • Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and may award grants.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to other departments; represent unit/department.
  • May oversee, analyze and assist in financial processes and development of budgets.
  • Serve as a key member of university wide teams and projects.
  • May train and supervise other staff, volunteers, student and temporary workers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementation.
  • Ability to coordinate large-scale events.
  • Advising experience/excellent listening skills.
  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people.
  • Understanding of underlying technological needs and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: - Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
