The Center for Immersive and Simulation-based Learning (CISL) at the Stanford School of Medicine and its 28,000 square foot Immersive Learning Center (ILC) in the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge (LKSC) is recognized as a world-leader in Immersive and simulation-based Learning (ISL). For over 25 years Stanford has been a pioneer in research, curriculum development, and instructor training in simulation in healthcare, through the work of Professor and current Associate Dean for ISL David Gaba MD and a host of other medical school faculty. The ILC offers various immersive learning experiences, including mannequin-based simulation, partial-task training, and standardized patient actors (who are trained to play the role of a patient with a specific medical complaint). The focus on medical education and lifelong learning is the driving force of the ILC. The use of the ILC continues to grow as more immersive activities are being developed for all learner populations, including medical students, housestaff, fellows, and experienced clinicians both from Stanford Medicine and from outside institutions.
The Center for Immersive and Simulation-based Learning is seeking a Standardized Patient (SP) Trainer. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Standardized Patient (SP) Trainer will recruit, interview, and make hiring recommendations regarding prospective standardized patients. The SP trainer will cast School of Medicine SP exercises, edit written and video training protocols, train SP's on cases, and monitor quality of SP performance. The SP Trainer will also have a role in assisting the simulation team in improving acting skills, acting as a consultant during scenario design, and occasionally perform in acting roles during mannequin-based simulation.
Duties include:
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program. Act as key contact.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
  • Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. May also represent the program or function to external constituencies.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, and/or conferences. May participate in development of budgets or oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/BA is desired and five years administrative experience (includes administrative, acting or training experience)
  • Theater degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Bay Area theater community (e.g., theater directors, casting directors, college theater professors, internet casting lists, etc.) in order to recruit new standardized patients preferred.
  • Familiarity with standardized patient or other medical simulation programs a plus.
  • Ability to use FileMaker or other relational database to gather information, analyze data, run reports and suggest system upgrades.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
