Reporting to the Associate Vice President for International Advancement, the Assistant Director will develop and oversee advancement programs to engage high capacity international alumni and families of current students. S/he will regularly communicate with major, principal and presidential prospects and donors, as well as senior administrators, deans, and faculty in performing these duties.

As part of a major and principal gift strategy, the Assistant Director will build strong, sustainable relationships with international students and engage them in philanthropic and advancement activities during their time on campus. Working closely with the Parent Giving team and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director will build relationships with international parents and alumni and help to create strong communities of stakeholders in strategically important parts of the world. S/he will build partnerships with both faculty and administrators across the university to enhance and develop engagement opportunities for international constituents.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to listen, a service oriented attitude, a strong work ethic, knowledge of and interest in international fundraising, and an appreciation for and sensitivity to Asian, Middle Eastern, European, and Latin American cultures. The individual must be self-motivated and detail-oriented, able to manage workload independently, and prioritize and manage ongoing projects at the same time. Challenges include juggling multiple responsibilities in a very busy environment.


Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. A minimum of four to six (4-6) years of experience in development, preferably in an international capacity in higher education. Management experience a plus. Must possess awareness and ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with university constituencies of varying cultures both internally and externally. Strong oral and written communication skills. Interest in understanding and learning about various cultures and traditions. Ability to thrive working both independently and as a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience using Salesforce a plus. Ability to travel internationally as needed.
