Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia is seeking an Assistant Director of Development to join our growing team supporting the University's philanthropic priorities.

The Assistant Director of Development is a frontline fundraiser and is part and of a fundraising team that generates philanthropic support for the University with a specific philanthropic priority of restoring and renovating the Jeffersonian Grounds. The Jeffersonian Grounds are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and include the Rotunda, Lawn, Ranges, Gardens and other historic features of the Academical Village originally designed by Thomas Jefferson. The Grounds are one of the distinguishing features of the University of Virginia and are materially associated with Jefferson's democratic and educational ideals.

The Jeffersonian Grounds Initiative (JGI) is one of the University's top fundraising priorities and includes restoring, repairing and renovating the buildings of the Academical Village; preserving and caring for the historic Gardens; and building an endowment for the long-term stewardship and interpretation of the Jeffersonian Grounds.

The Assistant Director will build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University. He/she will create personalized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals within his/her portfolio and assigned regional territory.

The Assistant Director will also work with University leadership including the Architect of the University, senior academic leadership, and volunteers to engage prospects and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in fundraising, relationship management or consultative sales including: managing and implementing development or sales strategies, and successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects, donors or clients. He/she will be a self-starter with excellent time-management skills; have an ability to articulate philanthropic priorities; demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of personal and professional integrity; be adept in building and maintaining both internal and external relationships; have exceptionally strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

This position requires the ability to travel with frequent night and some weekend work.
