The University of Virginia Police Department, a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, is seeking Police Officers to provide professional police service to the University community. University Police Officers are responsible for enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, the rules and regulations of the University, and providing a secure environment.
Candidates must have some work experience dealing with the public and must be able to pass state licensing requirements to become a sworn police officer in the state of Virginia, including, minimum age 21, US citizenship, and the ability to successfully pass all required background checks, complete pre-employment testing and successfully complete a field training program. University Police Officers must display uncommon integrity and be committed to the highest level of professionalism and excellence.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess strong oral and written communications, including writing accurate reports, testifying in court, interacting with the community.
Ability to effectively apply interviewing techniques in a variety of situations, including investigations.
Ability to evaluate situations and routinely make independent and appropriate decisions in unique situations.
Ability to apply Virginia state law in field situations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with the public under varying and often rapidly evolving situations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including mandatory overtime as a result of unforeseen circumstances and coverage requirements.
Understand and articulate the University's strategic aims and programs.
Ability to successfully complete the field training program.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position and successfully complete all pre-employment testing.
Ability to drive department vehicles as required.
Maintain a valid Virginia State Driver's License with a positive point balance.
Must be 21 years of age.
