Responsibilities:

The Graduate School of Engineering (GSE) is seeking a Program Coordinator to join its expanding Student Services team. The position combines administrative and academic support for students, with collaborative support for departments and program directors on academic processes and University initiatives. Our student population is diverse and increasing rapidly. The Program Coordinator review academic records of all graduate students in their assigned Master of Science, PhD, and Certificate programs to determine the eligibility of students for graduation. S/he supports the interactions between the Graduate School of Engineering (GSE) and the Registrar's office regarding graduate clearance and commencement issues for these students. S/he facilitates course registration, especially cross-college registration, for students along with reviewing and processing petitions filed by the graduate students to ensure that University and College academic policies are followed; verifying the accuracy of and process all change of grade cards; and communicates requirements to students.

The Program Coordinator provides academic and administrative advice to current graduate students on all aspects of the GSE and the University and also supports the customer service function of the GSE with regard to inquiries (emails, phone calls, or drop-in-visits) from matriculated and prospective students. S/he performs tasks/projects as assigned by the Director of Student Services to support the Student Services Team. The Program Coordinator serves as a SEVIS contact for international graduate students in the program(s) s/he supports. S/he reviews requests made by students that impact visa status or compliance to ensure that requests made are academically appropriate. While not responsible for visa compliance, the SEVIS contacts in each college partner with the Office of Global Studies to advise students on compliance requirements.

The Program Coordinator collaborates with department program directors on academic University processes, such as updating the Graduate Curriculum Catalog annually. If working with Professional Master's programs, the Program Director may assist the Directors of the Professional Master's Programs with course scheduling, add / drop needs for courses, and other ongoing programmatic needs.

Depending on program portfolio, s/he may work with departments to administer Stipended Graduate Assistantships for students. This work requires attention to detail and is deadline driven.

Qualifications:

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and one to two years related administrative experience. Experience in academic setting highly desired. Strong organizational and communication skills are required. Computer literacy requirements include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment including MS Word, Excel, and a good understanding of databases . Must be highly organized and self-directed with the ability to work as a team member.

This position requires leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to make independent judgments in various ways such as combining international student regulations with academic policies to provide the best solution for unique student issues. A demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and experience in dealing with international students are required of the position.
