The University of California, Irvine, a top public research university and one of the fastest growing campuses in the University of California system, seeks a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as the next Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice Chancellor of Planning and Budget. Reporting to the Chancellor and the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, the CFO will join UCI at a pivotal moment in the University's history. The next CFO will be an integral member of an innovative and dynamic leadership team and a key partner in achieving the University's ambitious strategic vision for growth, while being mindful of the need to develop new models of financial sustainability. In a newly expanded role, the CFO will lay the foundation for the University's future with an entrepreneurial mindset and a focus on revenue generation, budget management, and resource allocation.
As a newly designated Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution (AANAPISI), and for the second consecutive time, the top of The New York Times' College Access Index of U.S. universities based on their commitment to economic diversity, the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is among the most diverse and fastest growing campuses in the country. UCI serves approximately 33,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is home to more than 1,230 regular rank faculty and over 10,300 staff members.
The CFO will drive the strategic allocation and use of existing campus resources and employ cutting edge financial modeling and forecasting techniques to provide the campus with robust and innovative options for setting fiscal, budgetary, and capital directions. The successful candidate for this position will bring expertise and progressively responsible experience in financial analysis and planning, capital and operating budgets, asset management, institutional research, and real estate ventures, and must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other senior leaders and various campus constituencies, including the academic senate.
The Chancellor, along with other senior leaders, has laid out an exciting and ambitious vision for the future of UCI. With the changing landscape of the UC System and the necessity for UCI to evolve, the incoming CFO will play a key role in financially positioning the University to achieve its goals. - Substantially enhance the financial engine to fuel the University's growth
- Serve as a key financial advisor and partner across campus
- Effectively build and manage a superior team and exhibit best methods and behaviors for an evolving role
- Serve as a financial spokesperson and advocate on behalf of UCI within the UC System and beyond
- Enhance integration with the dynamic economy of Orange County
- Continue to build UCI as the university for social mobility and economic diversity of its students
