The Special Collections & Archives Division includes the Special Collections Research Center, Heritage Protocol & University Archives, the Claude Pepper Library, the Digital Library Center, and Cataloging & Description. The Special Collections Research Center is the home for the rare book and manuscript collections and serves as the primary research center and reading room for rare books, manuscripts, and Heritage Protocol & University Archives. Special Collections & Archives currently maintains four storage areas, three onsite and one remote, as well as the Heritage Museum. Collections move between at least five different buildings for storage, cataloging, digitization, and display.
Lead and direct collection preservation and conservation efforts.
Participate in strategic planning specifically concerning conservation, preservation, and disaster preparedness and response efforts.
Monitor and assess space needs, planning for future growth and overall storage needs.
Collaborate with colleagues to update and maintain policies and procedures for collections security, inventory control, preservation measures, and collection retrieval.
Manage monthly and annual collections reviews following established guidelines.
Manage environmental and physical storage conditions.
Coordinate special projects like complex collection moves.
Prepare materials for exhibit and digitization.
Collaborate with the Digital Archivist, the Digital Library Center, and other relevant partners in planning, creating, and managing digital collections from special collections materials.
Provide and/or coordinate preservation assessment surveys.
Maintain statistics and compile narrative and statistical reports as needed.
Work with Associate Dean for Special Collections and Archives and other colleagues to develop grant proposals and pursue external funding opportunities.
Prepare and deliver orientation and instruction sessions, workshops, and tours as needed. Proactively build partnerships across the University and in the community.
Provide reference and consultation services to in-house and distance users.
Serve as a member of the Special Collections Research Center reference staff.
Actively promote use of all the Division’s collections among university faculty and students, historic site and museum personnel, and members of the scholarly community and general public who could benefit from the Division’s services.
Participate in division-wide meetings and planning.
Supervise full time and part time staff and student assistants.
Serve on FSU Libraries and University Committees.
Contribute to state, regional, and national committees. Participate in research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities. Work evening and weekend hours, as needed.
MLS degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or master’s degree in a specialized area directly relevant to the position.
Experience in collections management.
Knowledge of current practice and emerging trends in collections management and preservation
Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively for collection management and access

Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement effective programs, complex projects, and services.
Flexibility and the capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

Anticipated Salary Range
Minimum $50,000. Offer commensurate with education and qualifications.

This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment. Benefits include 22 days vacation, 13 days sick leave, group medical, dental, and life insurance, an optional retirement program or state retirement, and no state or local income tax. With Dean’s approval, may qualify for University tuition scholarship for up to six hours credit each semester.
