Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacology &Toxicology at Michigan State University (MSU) (http://phmtox.msu.edu/) seeks to fill a continuing appointment, non-tenure system Assistant Professor faculty position in Pharmacology in the College of Human Medicine (CHM).   The College has campuses in East Lansing and Grand Rapids. While this position will be based in East Lansing, the faculty member will join a basic science teaching team that works across both sites to deliver the medical school curriculum as well as participating in graduate student (M.S.) and undergraduate pharmacology teaching. The new Shared Discovery Curriculum for M.D. students uses a highly innovative approach with students organized in learning societies working with domain experts who develop contentand create learning tools and resources. The incumbent to this position will assist in developing learning materials and will participate in an array of teaching modalities including small-group and team-based learning, simulations, and assessment. A unique, two-week Pharmacy rotation is incorporated in the second year (middle clinical experience) to provide an intensive exposure to pharmacology and clinical pharmacy concepts.

The primary duty will be to develop and deliver content on Pharmacology and clinical aspects of drug use to M.D.students in the Shared Discovery Curriculum in East Lansing. Organization and administration of various aspects of M.D. student Pharmacology teaching may involve the MCE Pharmacy Rotation or Intersession courses. In addition to teaching in the M.D. curriculum, there will be opportunities to teach, administer, and/or develop courses in the online Pharmacology M.S. program and the undergraduate Minor in Pharmacology. With the dual campuses and online programs, there is extensive use of remote technology communications in both organizational meetings and for content delivery. Some travel to the GrandRapids may also be required.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Pharmacology

Minimum Requirements

A PharmD or Pharmacology PhD degree plus three(3) years of prior clinical experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Additional requirements include strong interest in teaching and excellent communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional technologies is desirable but not required.
