Project Coordinator

The School of Information Sciences seeks a Project Coordinator to manage research projects, develop grant proposals, and make other contributions to developing the research activities of the iSchool.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates for this position may come from a range of career levels, including established career professionals with significant experience and skills, and early career candidates with translatable skills and experience, particularly recent Information Science MS graduates.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Manage research projects
  • Coordinate and develop reports for funding agencies, advisors, and other constituencies; collaborate on publications and other dissemination activities, including writing, editing, proofreading, etc.
  • Manage and monitor project budgets and assists with budget preparation, in collaboration with the PI and/or other budget management staff.
  • May directly contribute to on-the-ground research tasks, such as:
  • data collection and analysis;
  • discussions of development of protocols and research measures;
  • literature reviews, and other background research.
    • Lead and manage project communications and documentation. Includes tracking decisions and progress and providing follow-up; documenting project workflows and procedures; implementing web-based communication tools such as Google Docs, Box, wikis and mailing lists; leading and coordinating meetings and larger project and research-related events.
    • Prepare documentation for Institutional Review Board and other oversight agencies, as needed.
    • Monitor the work of project staff, primarily graduate research assistants, to meet project deadlines and deliverables, with oversight by the project PI.
    • Occasional travel may be required


    Develop grant proposals
    • Identify potential grant opportunities.
    • Participate in strategy discussions.
    • Facilitate interactions with collaborators and partner institutions.
    • Coordinate and contribute to development of proposal materials.


    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree; outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills; strong leadership and collaboration skills; experience managing multiple projects and ongoing operational demands; experience producing professional-quality work independently to deadline; excellent attention to detail; strong service ethic; excellent critical thinking skills and ability to learn new skills; and advanced skills with computing applications (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) are all required. A master's degree from a library/information science program accredited by the American Library Association, or a graduate degree in another field, is strongly preferred. Previous project coordination experience, or related experience in an academic environment; experience developing grant proposals; familiarity with budgets and budgeting in the University context; familiarity with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes; previous professional work experience, especially in libraries, museums, archives research centers, or related settings; experience working within and knowledge of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign familiarity with School of Information Sciences or the field of Information Sciences; and previous completion University of Illinois SPaRC'ed training are all preferred. Other useful related preferred skills or experience includes academic writing and publication; qualitative or quantitative research; and/or other technical computing/programming experience.
