Clinical Research Communication Specialist III
The Marketing Communication Specialist III is part of the Enterprise Communications
team within the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) Communications department. The
Enterprise Communications team is dedicated to positioning and promoting the DCRI as a
thought leader and essential partner in developing and sharing knowledge that improves the care
of patients around the world through innovative clinical research. We identify, create, and share
content that encourages internal and external stakeholders to engage with the DCRI, particularly
prospective sponsors and partners in government, industry, and academia, as well as employees.
The Marketing Communication Specialist III serves as project manager for our external-facing
communication programs, leading the development of marketing and promotional
materials that work across various channels—print, online, social media, exhibits and events, and
speaking engagements. This team member works closely with the DCRI's business development
and clinical operations teams, and partners with others in the Communications department,
including the graphic design, production and digital groups, to create, produce, and launch print
and digital assets.
The ideal candidate must think strategically, possess excellent verbal and written communication
skills, and have strong attention to detail. The candidate must be able to work with and direct
teams of people, without having supervisory responsibilities. This position requires strong
project management experience and a familiarity with the best practices of content marketing,
marketing communication, and social media. Knowledge of clinical research and/or health care
is preferred but not required.
· Provide marketing communications and project/content management support for business
development, faculty, clinical operations teams, and other clients attending industry and
· Identify, plan, and develop a range of digital and print materials to support integrated
communication campaigns that promote awareness and engagement with the DCRI
among key stakeholders.
· Act as the team liaison for developing and finalizing content, relaying input on design
and formatting options, and collaborating with other functional groups within the

identify areas of success and improvement.
· Research social media and other trending technologies and suggest appropriate tactics to
improve audience engagement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge and experience in the coordination, planning, and implementation of
communication strategies and tactics across print and digital media.
· Strong project/campaign management and execution skills.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills - strong copy editing and proofreading
skills, attention to detail, and creativity are required.
· Expertise in translating complex concepts into more easily understood terms for various
· Skilled in working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to lead and manage
multiple projects and competing deadlines.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and
employees at all levels in advising, gathering, preparing, and vetting material in a tactful

Education and Experience: Work requires a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, graphic
design, business, or related field. Five years of clinical trial communications experience, or an
equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
