Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under limited supervision, reporting to the Senior Director of Information Systems, the Advancement Systems Administrator provides information, support and services to advance the fundraising and community support building mission of the Division of Development. Leads the effort in accountability for all systems and servers that support Development fundraising goals. Responsible for software installations and upgrades, systems incident and problem resolution, systems security, server configuration as well as planning any recommendations for system upgrades in local and SaaS/PaaS environments. Ensures system hardware, operating systems, software systems and related procedures adhere to Advancement Services customer service standards enabling customers and staff system stability.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 2 years experience in computer operations or a related data processing field; or equivalency.

Experienced application level knowledge of capabilities, programming techniques, and intricacies of information systems. This position is required to travel, work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior experience as a systems administrator. Proven experience administering and designing Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft BI environments. Practical experience testing and installing third party software products. Familiarity with constituent donor database. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and relational database software including a working knowledge of querying and reporting from databases. Asset and firewall management experience.

Practical experience in systems security including an understanding of audit systems, enhanced user security and Internet security issues. Experience performing system tuning (operating system and application level), various networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, etc.) and Single-Sign-On technology.


Candidate should possess professional level experience in systems administration functions with a focus on Microsoft Active Directory. Knowledge of administration and configuration environments (VMWare or Hyper-V). Computer literacy is highly important. Knowledge of a wide variety of software is of significant importance, with the ability to train users in the most effective use of software. Programming and report writing experience. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills. An advanced knowledge and experience in the use of various complex computer systems and proficiency with a wide range of software will be especially important.
