RESIDENCE LIFE COORDINATOR
Columbus State University has an opening for a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) in the Department of Residence Life. This position is responsible for working with students to develop an environment that facilitates academic success and personal development. General responsibilities include supervision of all operations within a housing area, supervision of student staff members including Resident Assistants and Student Assistants, and enforcement of University rules and regulations. The position is a full-time, 12 month live- in position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: participating in all departmental planning and activities; involvement on university committees; selecting, supervising, and training resident assistants, graduate assistants, and student assistants as assigned; conducting weekly staff meetings with resident and student assistants; providing overall administration of a housing area with 440+ bed spaces; interpreting Residence Life rules and regulations and making recommendations of changes and modifications; advising, counseling, and interacting with individuals and student groups regarding institutional policies, services, and programs available; assisting students with problem solving and crisis intervention as well as making appropriate referrals when needed; responding to and evaluating disciplinary cases that occur and refer cases to the Director and/or Dean of Students as appropriate; participating in staff duty rotation, overseeing 1400 residents; and providing feedback/suggestions to resident assistants as needed.
The selected candidate’s responsibilities will also include implementing emergency procedures; opening and closing procedures in designated housing areas; monitoring, reporting, and following up with facility maintenance and cleaning issues; working closely with University Police and security to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents; planning, developing, and implementing educational , social, and cultural programs for the personal growth and development of residential students; managing an area programming budget; providing basic counsel and advising to residential students as needed; maintaining relationships and providing support to the Faculty in Residence within the housing area; coordinating summer housing as well as assist with summer camps in the housing area; assist with campus orientation activities; provide leadership in development of a safe, positive, and welcoming community environment through programming, service delivery, and assessment; and all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in any field and prior experience in Residence Life as a resident assistant, residence life staff member, or the equivalent. The selected candidate must have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills; an understanding of student development theory and student retention; and the ability to respond immediately to emergency situations.
A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or the equivalent is preferred.
The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
