Job Description


General Helpdesk and Operational support for Servers, Desktops, Laptops, Tape backups and peripherals with an emphasis on supporting the Optel Serialization equipment.


Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Installation, set-up, maintenance, upgrades, patching Desktops and Servers
  • Support Optel Serialization equipment in Manufacturing environment
  • Peripheral devices, including printers, copiers and scanners
  • Telecommunications equipment and communication lines (MPLS and VPN)
  • Network hardware and software (Dell, Cisco)
  • Telephony equipment VOIP on Mitel
  • Install telephones (Mitel)
  • Support the Microsoft office suite
  • Support Active Directory
  • Install and support appropriate security procedures to safeguard systems from physical harm and viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data
  • Perform regular tests to ensure integrity of systems
  • Ensure Virus protection, is up-to-date
  • WSUS and GPO support
  • Responsible for tracking problems and resolution
  • Use Dell KACE helpdesk for ticket tracking and management of PC's
  • Develops user guides procedures, schedules and compliance related documentation
  • System backups, check log files, change tapes
  • Maintain equipment inventory
  • Review system logs and records daily
  • Provide recommendations and input on software/hardware selection
  • Additional duties as assigned by Manager

  • Strong Windows Server experience required
  • Solid understanding of Ethernet/LAN/WAN/IP networking software and hardware
  • Strong PC diagnostic and troubleshooting skills required
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Word/Excel/Outlook desktop programs
  • Ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel to solve network problems
  • Required availability:
  • To be on call
  • To work long hours if necessary in case of serious system/network malfunction
  • Demonstrated analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking
  • Excellent follow through


  • •A Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience/education relative to the position
  • Must have a minimum of eight years' experience in system/network/security administration desired


  • Ability to meet attendance standards. All full-time employees are required to work a 40-hr week. At times it may be necessary to work additional hours in order to get the required tasks accomplished to meet deadlines.
  • Must work will users at all levels within Akorn for business and computer related questions and problem solving on a daily basis
  • Must work with customers and vendors outside of Akorn for business and computer related questions and problem solving on a daily basis


Standard office conditions with occasional overtime. The required appearance is neat and well organized. The company dress code is business casual attire. Business like behavior and professional business attire at meeting, seminars and conferences is mandatory, regardless of the environment
