Duties: Perform advanced research and support assigned projects by examining the literature for different experimental approaches to address a scientific question. Supervise laboratory personnel to maintain an orderly and safe laboratory and represent the lab as safety officer. The position involves the study of inflammation, host-bacteria interactions and the effect of diabetes on inflammation. The position provides the opportunity to mentor graduate students and visiting scholars, devise experimental approaches and data analysis. Manuscript and grant preparation and writing of IACUC/IRB applications will also be performed.
Qualifications: The position is most suited for someone with a background in immunology. A PhD level degree in immunology or a related field is required with a minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience. Excellent writing and communication and organizational skills are essential. Extensive experience in immunological techniques is needed to perform the laboratory duties. Prior experience working with bone marrow cells and flow cytometry (FACS) is required along with experience with animal model systems. A strong publication record is preferred. Expertise in basic and advanced molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, siRNA is also helpful.
