Overview

The Office of Alumni Affairs works to inform, involve and inspire Princeton's global community of 90,000 undergraduate and graduate alumni worldwide in the life of the University for a lifetime of learning, enrichment and service.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Regional Affairs, Affiliated Groups and the Princeton Prize in Race Relations, the Associate Director for Regional Affairs is an integral member of the team responsible for managing the University's regional association effort which supports approximately 150 alumni volunteer-driven regional clubs/associations across the country and around the world. The Associate Director for Regional Affairs acts as a liaison to Princeton's regional associations, offering tools and training, assisting with strategic planning initiatives, and helping to plan for leadership succession. In addition, this position supports the planning and implementation of University events for alumni held in the U.S. and abroad annually featuring the University President, as well as numerous on-campus University events for alumni.

Responsibilities

Advise, support, train and steward alumni volunteer leadership in assigned regions, assisting them with planning for association events, communications, programs and activities. Help Princeton clubs/associations recruit new volunteers.

Assist proactively with the revival or reinvigoration of clubs in designated areas to increase alumni engagement.

Work closely with colleagues responsible for Affiliated Groups, Affinity Groups, Graduate Alumni and Classes and Reunions to maximize participation in and involvement with regional clubs/associations and events.

Plan, market and help execute all-alumni University events on campus and in the regions, including program planning, logistics management, budget tracking and volunteer leadership support in collaboration with Alumni Affairs colleagues and campus partners. Major events include University President events, Affiliated and Affinity Group Conferences, the Princeton Prize in Race Relations Symposium on Race, Volunteer Leadership Assemblies among others.

Work closely with colleagues responsible for alumni academic programming to promote Faculty Speakers Bureau program, Princeton Journeys and other learning opportunities available to alumni.

Staff and support designated Alumni Council Executive Committee standing committees.

Analyze and track alumni engagement metrics to determine trends and areas of opportunity.

Manage, track and reconcile program budgets.

Staff and support Office of Alumni Affairs signature events (e.g. homecoming Tailgate, Reunions and Alumni Day). Assume responsibility for designated Reunion activities.

Staff occasional Princeton Journey trips as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in organization, setting goals and priorities, multi-tasking, attention to detail, problem solving, exercising judgement and discretion, project management, strategic planning, motivating others, and both written and oral communication required.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals in a team-oriented environment, with emphasis on consensus-building skills.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with both volunteers and with members of the Office of Alumni Affairs, the Office of Development and other campus colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage volunteer relationships and engage alumni volunteers.
  • Exercise discretion at all times related to keep confidential all data related to Princeton and its alumni.
  • Bachelor's degree and 6-8 years of project management experience
  • Proficiency in MS Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, and travel both domestically and abroad.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education, alumni relations and/or volunteer management is a plus
  • Familiarity with Princeton University, its alumni and its traditions
  • Marketing and events experience preferred
