Department Summary: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bridgewater State University includes 16 departments, 177 full-time faculty members, and a varying number of part-time faculty. We serve 5400 undergraduate majors and teach the courses that are the heart of the liberal arts curriculum at BSU. The University and the College place great emphasis on social justice, inclusive excellence, on undergraduate research with faculty, on collaborations, and on connections with the community. Position Summary: The Assistant Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences serves as a key support in the College. The successful candidate will join a team that ensures all students of the College are well served and supported. The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean of the College, providing advising support to academic departments and working with students. Supervision Received: The Assistant Dean is supervised by the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is a (12) twelve month non-unit, exempt position.
Essential Duties: *Work with academic departments on improving advising strategies and developing advising materials *Maintain advising graduation plans in DegreeWorks; work with faculty to promote the planner in DegreeWorks *Handle routine student issues (late adds, drops, withdrawals, general information) *Advise students during summer if faculty advisor is not available *Develop strategies to support students on academic probation and warning *Work with Transfer Central to support transfer student advising *Assist the Associate Dean and Dean as needed
Required Qualifications: Master's or PhD in a humanities or social sciences field Higher education experience as instructor and/or advisor
Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working with a diverse student body * Experience in public higher education * Experience within a collective-bargaining environment

Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000
