Degree and Area of Specialization:
A bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred, with an emphasis on higher education, instructional design, educational technology, library and information studies, or a related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-Knowledge of current best practices in higher education teaching and learning, with an understanding of learning sciences research, active learning, and blended learning
-Ability to analyze and identify educational outcomes and transform them into engaging and effective instructional materials using current instructional design principles
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate on complex projects with diverse teams including faculty, academic staff, graduate teaching assistants, librarians, and technologists
-Experience in supporting faculty with learning management systems such as Canvas
-Experience in supporting the integration of educational technology in a higher education setting including directly consulting with faculty and staff
-Experience developing or editing content in WordPress
-The ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds possessing diverse views
-Willingness and ability to work in a change-rich environment
-Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to pay strict attention to detail and meet deadlines
-Excellent writing and editing skills accompanied by strong oral communication skills
-The ability to work independently while actively collaborating with others
-Strong skills in using Canvas to create and edit quality instructional content
-Experience creating instructional content using Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline, Captivate or other similar content creation tools
-Experience supporting faculty, staff and student research efforts
-Experience developing collaborative partnerships in higher education
-Hiring, supervising and training student staff
-An understanding of research data services and data visualization software
-Experience providing library or technology services
-A background in education
The Instructional Technologist will work as part of a team to collaborate with the School of Education (SoE) faculty, staff and students to enhance the delivery of face-to-face, online, and blended instructional content to meet MERIT (Media, Educational Resources, and Information Technology) and SoE strategic priorities. This position will help identify, implement, and maintain instructional and research technologies, strategies, and resources for SoE faculty, staff, and students. They will also work with SoE departments and units, as well as campus partners, to realize strategic initiatives as they intersect with technology, libraries, and instruction. In addition, the Instructional Technologist will work to embody a strong, proactive, user-centered service ethic.
This position works in MERIT (Media, Education Resources, and Information Technology), a vibrant service unit with a collaborative team of media specialists, technologists, and librarians that steward the School of Education's Information Environment.
Through ongoing leadership in the adoption of emerging technologies, MERIT empowers members of the School of Education community and its partners to achieve excellence. This position reports to the Manager of Library and Instruction Services.
