Summary of the Position
The Research Consultant is a statistical consultant, who advises clients (primarily faculty) on many aspects of research, including research design, survey design, data gathering methodology, data input, and data analysis. The Research Consultant is responsible for staying abreast of statistical procedures and will need to work in concert with the Senior Research Consultant on numerous projects. S/he must have an understanding of research design, statistical methodology, and statistical software such as SAS and SPSS and be able to communicate this understanding to faculty, administrators, support staff, and PhD students. A fundamental responsibility includes the translation of data from the format in which it is received to formats which permit easy use by clients. The Research Consultant is a member of the Academic Technology Center (ATC) staff, and as such, contributes to the formation of the departmental goals and objectives, and assists other staff members in projects as appropriate.
Provides professional consultation services to faculty in his/her area of expertise. Analyzes research goals and needs of Bentley faculty and applies appropriate research methodologies in a variety of disciplines.
Manipulates acquired data to a form usable by the faculty member, assisting with both data extraction, interpretation, and formatting.
Evaluates and recommends statistical resources for use in instruction and research initiatives. This includes investigating alternative sources of data and software to satisfy faculty research goals.
Prepares and conducts faculty workshops on research tools and methodologies for specific disciplines or general academic use.
Continues to stay abreast of latest researching trends including technologies and methodologies.
Works collaboratively with the Senior Research Consultant on a variety of projects, who may designate specific assignments.
Minimum Qualifications(Education and Experience Requirements)
Master's degree in Statistics, Social Sciences or related concentration. Minimum of 2 years in a statistical research position role in an academic or corporate environment where researching, training and program development are emphasized.
Must have experience in several database management and statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS, STATA.
Must have programming experience using SAS or R.
Proven excellent oral and written communication and training skills.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Ability to work collaboratively within an academic community and take the lead to work independently on projects to completion.
Ability to manage and meet deadlines.
Interested and willing to explore new tools and methodologies that can be applied to faculty research problems.
Experience in academic research.
Programming experience in both SAS and R.
Mental effort far outweighs physical effort.
