Graduate Assistant, Equity Center
Summary of the Position
The Equity Center Graduate Assistant will develop educational initiatives focused on Title IX and gender equity. This position will support the Equity Center – a resource center focused on gender, sexuality, and gender identity – and will report to the Assistant Director of Gender Equity and Development in the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.
The Equity Center Overview
The Equity Center provides a safe space for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Bentley University who seek to create a more inclusive, informed, and compassionate community. This resource center promotes an ethos of leadership focused on social justice and provides campus-wide workshops, dialogues, and programs. We welcome all members of campus to this space and strive to develop leaders who celebrate gender, sexuality, and their intersection with other dimensions of identity.
There are two student organizations housed in the Equity Center that are committed to creating change on campus – P.R.I.D.E. and Students Advocating Gender Equality (SAGE). These groups promote values of inclusion and empower students of all genders and sexualities to feel welcome on campus.
This space also hosts a peer education group called the Equity Center Educators (ECEs). The ECEs undergo a semester-long training to better understand gender-based violence and discrimination, and they act as referral agents for all students. Additionally, the ECEs offer programs about gender roles, the hook up culture, Title IX, and privilege.
In addition to the various student groups, the Equity Center supports engaging events that occur on campus each year. These initiatives include the White Ribbon Campaign, Day of Silence, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. We also provide numerous trainings for students, including bystander education and intergroup dialogues.
• Manage large-scale programs that address sexual assault prevention and healthy relationships
• Assist with advising a group of 10-12 peer educators that operates out of the Equity Center
• Develop student trainings and workshops with a focus on gender, sexuality, and discrimination
• Evaluate and utilize data from the University climate survey to create programs for students, faculty, and staff
• Promote the marketing and social media outreach of the Equity Center
• Create online resources for the Equity Center, Equity Center Educators, and other initiatives related to gender and sexuality
• Benchmark Title IX and gender-based initiatives from comparison institutions
• Review the University's Title IX and Gender-Based Discrimination Policy and provide ongoing feedback and edits
As an intern for the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, this position may also be asked to help with projects connected to Student Conduct, New Student Programs, and the Division of Student Affairs. Some of these projects include, but are not limited to, reviewing websites, creating printed materials, and updating existing documents and presentations.
Minimum Qualifications(Education and Experience Requirements)
• Enrollment in a Master's program in education, psychology, public health, women's or gender studies, or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Program planning and event management
• Research and benchmarking
• Group facilitation
• Knowledge of identity and leadership development theories
