The Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes (RASC) is responsible for providing comprehensive academic support services for Temple's nearly 500 student-athletes on 19 intercollegiate sports. The RASC's mission is to provide superior academic, personal and professional guidance to support all Temple University student-athletes. Through core values of diversity, integrity and collaboration across the University, the Center strives to inspire student-athletes to learn and succeed to their greatest academic and professional potential. Working under regular guidance of more experienced advising staff, the Associate Academic Advisor provides academic support by working with students and records. He/she helps to advise students concerning schedules, majors, hours and other pertinent academic information; helps disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise; directs students to appropriate advising staff; and may participate in meetings to discuss academic and professional goals. The Associate Academic Advisor helps to prepare and present student orientation sessions and assists with course selections and registration activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience in an academic setting or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities:
* Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students and constituent groups (coaches, college advisors, university administrators).
* Basic understanding of NCAA continuing eligibility standards.
* Ability to learn, understand, and interpret curricula.
* Demonstrated understanding of Microsoft Office, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
* Ability to balance multiple tasks and provide appropriate follow-up services to facilitate academic success.
* Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast paced environment.
* Ability to work night and/or weekends, as necessary.
