St. Michael's Hospital (SMH), Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI) and the University of Toronto's (UT) Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are seeking a full-time academic physiatrist to lead rehabilitation programs for brain injury and neuro-trauma at SMH. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate will have an academic position description of clinician teacher or clinician in quality and innovation. The expected start date of the position is January 1, 2018, or shortly thereafter.
This is a full time position in which the majority of time (approximately 80%) will be at SMH. Responsibilities include active presence on the trauma and neurosurgical inpatient units 4 to 5 half-days per week, consulting on patients with acquired brain injuries, cerebrovascular disease, recent neurosurgical procedures, and other forms of intracranial disease or injury. Ambulatory activities would include 2 half-days in the brain injury clinic at SMH and 1 to 2 half-days per week at TRI in brain injury or other relevant clinics. The successful candidate will work closely with trauma and critical care leadership to ensure that early rehabilitation approaches are successfully implemented. Ultimately there may be an opportunity to lead the brain injury clinic.
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have or be working towards a graduate degree relevant to education or quality improvement.
