The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a Research Scientist.

Duties: Provide consulting and advanced technical support to Industry Program users of high-performance computing (HPC) technology in the area of Computational Aided Engineering (CAE) and other industrial high performance user communities. Support and execute the National Center for Supercomputing Applications' (NCSA's) industrial research projects and training activities. Provide user support and consulting services to the NCSA's industrial user communities at large. Provide technical support to NCSA industrial users of in-house and third party Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element (FEA) software packages, such as ANSYS/Fluent and Abaqus. Execute industrially-funded consulting and research projects on NCSA's high performance computing (HPC) systems such as iForge and Blue Waters under the guidance of PSP management. Write the reports and present it to the funding company at the end of the project. Provide training to industrial users in the areas of HPC, CFD, and FEA. Occasional travel to industrial partner facilities and other locations required. Maintain the confidentiality of any and all projects, efforts, and data associated with any and all of NCSA's industrial partners, as designated by binding non-disclosure agreements and/or export-control guidelines.

Requirements: Requires a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related field. Two (2) years of experience prior to or after obtaining Ph.D. in solving complex problems using computational engineering analysis. Strong background in computational methods in science and engineering. Experience with various CAE/CAD systems. Experience in Fortran, C, C++, and Matlab. Expertise in HPC computing and parallel programming as it relates to engineering and other industrial applications. Full-time.
