As a member of the coaching staff responsibilities include working closely with the Head Coach to develop and coach an NCAA Division III baseball team. Assume full responsibility for recruitment, teach courses in the PALS and/or professional physical education program, and carrying out administrative responsibilities within the Intercollegiate Athletics department during fiscal year 2017-2018. Actively ensure compliance with all NCAA and Ithaca College rules and regulations. Participate in establishing goals and objectives for the season; monitor the academic progress of student-athletes; and participate in fundraising projects and other activities designed to promote and enhance personal development of the student-athlete, the baseball program and the overall athletic program. Design and provide instruction and supervision on individual and team skills and physical health and safety to student athletes.
1. Oversee, coordinate and supervise recruitment efforts. Actively develop recruitment strategies in accordance with NCAA bylaws, identify students to recruit and high schools to visit; carry out correspondence with prospective student athletes by mail, telephone, and e-mail. Arrange and conduct on-campus and off-campus visits and various meetings with recruits and other members of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics program, including the Director.
2. Present and discuss information related to Ithaca College student host and prospective student athlete responsibilities prior to releasing a prospect for a campus overnight recruiting visit.
3. Evaluate and select student athletes to include assessment of individual academic eligibility and overall skill levels; coordinate the process of selecting, maintaining, monitoring and evaluating team members to include athlete talent assessment, academic eligibility and individual sport performance.
4. Monitor the academic progress of assigned student athletes and ensure compliance with NCAA, College, and conference regulations; provide council to student athletes regarding goals, academic success and other personal and sport related issues.
5. Teach assigned courses within the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance and/or carry out assigned administrative responsibilities equal to the teaching assignment.
6. Attend and participate in national or regional level coaching clinics as approved by the Head Coach and Director.
7. Prepare and submit the baseball program budget and provide input on all team travel, lodging and meals. Submit travel itinerary for all away competitions to athletics administrations approximately one week prior to scheduled events.
8. Evaluate, select and recommend for purchase sport related equipment, uniform and supplies. Oversee the distribution and recovery of all equipment, uniforms and supplies. Ensure and monitor an inventory control system for all equipment, uniforms and supplies.
9. Assist and collaborate respectively with the appropriate athletics administrators creating practice and competition schedules.
10. Oversee the arrangement of officials for all appropriate home competitions.
11. Identify problems and/or concerns regarding athletic facilities and work with the Associate Director of Athletics or other athletics administrators in an attempt to resolve facility-related concerns, especially those involving safety issues.
12. Participate in identifying candidates for assistant coaching positions and assist in the selection process. Supervise and evaluate the performance of full and part-time assistant coaches, graduate assistants and volunteer coaches and provide input on their evaluations.
13. Engage in various fundraising projects and related programs and activities promoting the athletics program to include ensuring that sport specific fundraising goals are met. This may involve participation in public relations opportunities with faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and news media.
14. Participate in planning and conducting in-season and where appropriate and permissible pre-season, non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions; using ones own discretion and independent judgment develop and implement conditioning programs, practice and competition related activities for teams and or/individuals.
15. Design instructions for individual student athletes and for specific team needs, and teach proper skills, skill development, and team concepts to student athletes.
16. Provide student athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety and promote student athlete safety and well being.
17. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
18. Participate in establishing goals and objectives for this season in consultation with the head coach; complete various reports and establish and maintain accurate records of all team data and statistics.
19. Oversee the distribution and recovery of all equipment and uniforms. Work with the Equipment Manager to establish and maintain an inventory control system; recommend the purchase or replacement of uniforms and equipment.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years' related experience; demonstrated ability to plan and conduct pre-season, in-season and non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions; experience developing and implementing conditioning programs for teams and or/individuals, experience recruiting athletes, scheduling and coordinating special events or athletic contests; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment are required. Masters degree or progress towards an advanced degree and previous experience working in a college or university athletics department is highly desired. National certification in strength and conditioning preferred.
