Coding/Billing Specialist-Radiation Oncology-1701989


Duties of a Coding/Billing Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Abstracts pertinent information from patient records. Assigns ICD-10-CM codes.
  • Directly enters codes on the proper source documents and abstracts data.
  • Queries physicians when code assignments are not straight forward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings identified concerns to supervisor or department manager for resolution.
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of data contained in the medical records as outlined in institutional policies and procedures. Supports and promotes the HIM department by participating in special projects.
  • Performs analysis of charge edits and charge reconciliation. Responsible for both hospital and physician charge capture.
  • Responsible for training and education of the insurance, front desk and coordinators.
  • Responsible for professional and hospital coding process issues, quality and data collection.
  • Abstracts pertinent information from ambulatory patient records. Assigns ICD-CM and CPT procedure codes including Level II HCPCS.
  • Provides responses to internal and external audit findings.
  • Performs special projects as required including, but not limited to, performing I-CAP required quality audits of all ambulatory coding staff.
  • Liaison to Hospital and CPMP revenue integrity groups on coding, billing and operational issues.
  • Responsible for daily, weekly ad final chart checks for Hospital and Practice billing.
  • Responsible for annual P-file review and updating and implementing new codes.
  • Responsible for Accounts Receivable for practice.
  • Primary user for CPMP TES edit system and IDX.
  • Oversees all CPMP inquires and submits documentation for appeals.
  • Responsible for all Radiation Oncology related patient billing inquiries.
  • Responsible for Aflac patients and submission of necessary paperwork.
  • Oversee Ad Hoc reports needed, understanding of PQRS, MIPS and Meaningful use.
  • Required Qualifications: Associate Degree in Business Administration or HIM, and completed a billing/coding program. Experience in acute hospital ambulatory or physician coding experience.

    Preferred Qualifications: Radiation Oncology experience. Certification in RHIT, CCS or CPC

    credential.
