The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefits-eligible, position with its Center for Midwifery (CFM) faculty practice in Aurora, CO, at the Anschutz Medical Campus. This position is 100% clinically based and is hired at a clinical practice track Instructor appointment level within the College of Nursing. The position is full scope including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care to an educated population of women seeking midwifery care. CFM is a midwifery faculty practice consisting of 7 CNMs.

Faculty Practice Description:

The Center for Midwifery is a private practice model which works collaboratively within the department of OB/GYN. We offer women and families many services including individualized care, alternative labor/birth options, childbirth education, lactation services, mental health services, water birth and referrals to physician groups in other departments. The practice provides full-scope midwifery care to women at three locations with births occurring at the University of Colorado Hospital Birth Center. CFM believes that women benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the patient while including the family in the plan of care. We serve women who desire an alternative labor and birth experience with water birth option. The nurse-midwife will be part of a midwifery service that has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system.

Supervision Received:

Work is performed independently under the general direction and authority of the Director of Center for Midwifery within the College of Nursing (CON) faculty practices and the Associate Dean for Community and Clinical Affairs.

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Provide full scope care to the gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient
  • Provide care in the outpatient clinic, triage unit, and intrapartum unit
  • Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Attend monthly practice meetings and participate in a minimum of 1-2 practice and/or College of Nursing committees.
  • Educate health care team students (APNs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations
  • Provide water birth option to low risk women.
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.

  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and other members of the health care team

  • Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.

Conditions of Employment:

Applicant must be willing and able to provide full scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or midwifery
  • Current AMCB certification
  • Current RN and APN licensures (Any State) (Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies.). Must have Colorado RN and APN licenses by date of hire.
  • Current Prescriptive Authority (RxN) Licensure (Any State). Must have Colorado RxN license by date of hire. (Strong new Grad will be considered without RxN)
  • A minimum of two years of full scope practice providing antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care. A strong new graduate will be considered.
  • Current BLS and NRP Certification
  • Current DEA license within 18 months of hire.
  • Valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Valid Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire
  • Completed CAQH by date of hire


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced in water birth and alternative labor/birth options
  • Current Colorado State RN & APN Licensures
  • Current, active, Colorado Prescriptive Authority & DEA
  • Limited OB ultrasound skills
  • Previous student preceptor experience
