Summary of Job Duties

This non-tenure track academic year Instructor position supports the undergraduate Biological Engineering program in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate will teach selected undergraduate courses, provide support in teaching other undergraduate courses, serve as the liaison with the Freshman Engineering Program, assist in advising undergraduates with faculty partners, and assist with processes for ABET accreditation of the undergraduate program. The successful candidate's teaching, research, extension and/or industry experience should complement and enhance the existing biological engineering curriculum and department strengths in sustainable water, energy and food systems.

Teach 3 to 5 undergraduate and/or graduate Biological Engineering courses per academic year
Advise undergraduate students
Assist with assigned biological engineering design courses
Assist with class field-trips and maintenance of teaching labs
Facilitate undergraduate involvement in faculty research programs and/or internships
Serve as a liaison with the Freshman Engineering Program and the College of Engineering to support departmental recruiting efforts

Ability to work in inter- and trans-disciplinary teams
Experience with computer software and modeling relevant to Biological Engineering academic programs
Demonstrated record of effective interpersonal and communication skills
Commitment to enhance the existing teaching program
Willingness to recruit at high schools and/or within the Freshman Engineering Program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree with at least one degree in engineering or equivalent must be conferred by the start of employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in disciplines such as biological, bio-systems, ecological, or environmental engineering or closely related field, with at least one degree in engineering
  • Experience in teaching, research, extension, and/or industry in the sustainable management of food, energy, and water
